Iran Criticizes US Use of Advanced Tech in Ceasefire Breach Strikes

Tensions escalated in the Gulf region as Iran accused the United States of breaching a ceasefire following American military strikes on missile launch sites and mine-laying vessels in southern Iran. These developments have sparked renewed concerns, with global oil prices experiencing a notable surge. Brent crude saw an increase of over four percent after the announcement of the U.S. actions, highlighting the economic impact of the heightened tensions.

Iranian officials, including those from the foreign ministry, condemned the U.S. strikes in the Hormozgan region, asserting that they violated the existing ceasefire agreement. The Iranian government warned of potential retaliatory measures if further actions were taken against them. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported explosions near Bandar Abbas, close to the Strait of Hormuz, and the Revolutionary Guards claimed to have intercepted a U.S. drone and engaged an American fighter jet near their airspace.

In defense of the strikes, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio stated that the operations were carried out in self-defense to safeguard American forces from perceived threats. He emphasized the ongoing diplomatic negotiations in Qatar aimed at resolving the conflict and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for global maritime trade, warning against any disruptions.

Amid these developments, Iranian officials mentioned that discussions are underway about a potential agreement that could see the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets as part of a comprehensive plan to end hostilities. In the international arena, China called on both parties to adhere to the ceasefire and encouraged resolving disputes through peaceful dialogue.

The regional unrest also had implications for neighboring Lebanon, where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged a stronger stance against Hezbollah. Reports indicated that Israeli forces have expanded their military operations near the Lebanese border. Additionally, Iran has started to gradually restore internet services after months of nationwide restrictions, signaling a shift in domestic policy amid the ongoing tensions.
