Spain Utilizes Advanced Tech for Fire Alerts Amid 40C Heat Surge

Spain is bracing for another bout of extreme heat, with temperatures set to soar past 40 degrees Celsius in various regions as the heatwave extends into the weekend. The national weather service has issued orange heat warnings valid through Friday, predicting temperatures to reach up to 42C in Madrid and certain southern areas. The inland regions of Andalusia are expected to bear the brunt of the heat, with forecasts indicating highs between 42C and 43C.

Córdoba and Sevilla are among the areas anticipated to be most affected. In Córdoba, temperatures are predicted to climb to around 43C by Thursday, maintaining near 40C on Friday. Much of the province remains under a yellow heat warning, with these unusually high temperatures likely to persist into the early part of next week. In Sevilla, specifically the Campiña Sevillana region, an orange warning is in place as temperatures are expected to peak at 41C during the afternoon and evening hours.

Other regions across Spain are also feeling the heat, with temperatures of 40C or more expected in places like Badajoz, Cáceres, Córdoba, Sevilla, Granada, Jaén, Zaragoza, Lleida, Logroño, and Toledo. Large areas of mainland Spain anticipate temperatures exceeding 34C, while Mallorca could see highs surpassing 35C. Warm nights are on the horizon for parts of southern Spain, the Mediterranean coast, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands, where minimum temperatures may hover around 25C.

The scorching conditions are attributed to a very warm air mass covering mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. This heatwave is also heightening the risk of wildfires, with some areas facing potentially severe fire hazards. Though temperatures might begin to ease in some regions after Friday, the intense heat is expected to linger through the weekend. Conversely, northern coastal areas are likely to experience significantly cooler conditions, with temperatures generally staying in the mid-20s.
