Bulgaria is bracing for severe weather as orange-level alerts have been issued for six districts due to forecasted heavy rain on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The regions under the most intense warnings include Kurdzhali, Haskovo, Yambol, Bourgas, Varna, and Shoumen, where rainfall is expected to be particularly heavy. Additionally, most other districts in the country are under yellow-level alerts, indicating potentially dangerous weather conditions.
The national weather forecast predicts widespread cloudy and rainy conditions across Bulgaria on Tuesday. Central and eastern areas are likely to experience intense rainfall, while the southwest may see precipitation weaken and eventually cease. Moderate northerly winds are expected throughout the country, with strong gusts likely in eastern regions. Temperatures are forecasted to reach between 10°C and 15°C, with Sofia expected to hit around 11°C.
In the mountainous regions, conditions will be challenging with cloudy skies, wind, and rain, accompanied by snowfall at elevations above approximately 1,700 meters. Significant precipitation is anticipated in parts of the central Balkan Mountains, the Rhodope Mountains, Strandzha, and Sakar. Temperatures in these areas are expected to be around 6°C at 1,200 meters and approximately 1°C at 2,000 meters.
Along the Black Sea coast, the weather will be rough, with cloudy skies, rain, and strong winds. Locally heavy precipitation is possible in the afternoon, with maximum temperatures ranging from 15°C to 17°C and sea temperatures around 20°C to 21°C. A yellow-level warning is also in effect for strong winds and waves, urging residents and travelers to remain cautious and stay informed about the latest weather updates.
Notably, Sofia City, Pernik, Kyustendil, and Blagoevgrad are the only districts without any weather warnings, suggesting these areas might escape the worst of the forecasted conditions. Residents across the affected regions are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the heavy rain and strong winds expected in the coming days.
