Meta Introduces Privacy-Focused AI Glasses Without Cameras

Meta has unveiled a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, notably featuring a camera-free model aimed at addressing privacy concerns associated with wearable technology. Priced at $349, these audio-only glasses are set to be available from October 13. The absence of cameras in this model is a direct response to privacy issues that have surrounded previous smart glasses, which included cameras for photo and video capabilities.

In addition to the camera-free version, Meta continues to expand its offerings with new smart glasses that come equipped with display capabilities. These advanced models will start at $799 and are planned to be rolled out in additional international markets. The company also introduced mixed-reality glasses, described as lighter and equipped with an external battery and memory pack, scheduled for a spring 2027 launch with a starting price of $1,299.

Central to Meta’s new product line is Muse, an AI-powered personal assistant integrated into the glasses. Muse is designed to help users with tasks such as booking appointments, making calls, and connecting to various services. This development is part of Meta’s larger strategy to incorporate AI into consumer products, positioning the AI glasses and Muse as pivotal elements in this initiative.

Meta’s commitment to privacy remains significant, even with the camera-equipped versions of their smart glasses. These models include visible recording indicators to ensure users are aware when recording is taking place. The company emphasizes that these features are crucial to maintaining user trust and addressing ongoing privacy concerns.

Overall, Meta’s latest announcements reflect its strategic focus on expanding the functionality and appeal of smart wearables while navigating the challenges posed by privacy issues. By offering a range of products that cater to different user preferences and privacy sensitivities, Meta aims to solidify its position in the rapidly evolving market of AI-powered wearable technology.
