Frieden Sees U.S.–Europe Unity Growing Ahead of Alaska Summit

Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden voiced cautious optimism about stronger U.S.–European coordination on Ukraine as leaders prepare for the upcoming Trump–Putin meeting in Alaska.

Frieden said both sides share the same objectives: securing a ceasefire, providing strong security guarantees for Ukraine, and ensuring Kyiv is directly involved in any territorial discussions. He noted that during recent high-level talks with Western leaders, U.S. officials signaled a willingness to keep Europe closely informed and involved in the process.

Expressing a “slight hope” for progress, Frieden emphasized that any decision on ceding territory must be made solely by Ukraine. He added that the U.S. has committed to briefing European partners immediately after the Alaska summit.
